FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. Metta World Peace Lakers Jersey . -- The Atlanta Falcons have activated linebacker Sean Weatherspoon from the injured list and signed offensive tackle Sean Locklear. Weatherspoon, one of the teams defensive leaders, rejoined the 53-man roster Wednesday. He sustained a foot injury in Week 2 and missed the last seven games. The Falcons went 1-6 while he was out. The 310-pound Locklear spent most of his 10-year career with Seattle before moving to Washington in 2011 and the New York Giants last season. He played in 12 games with 10 starts for the Giants. The Falcons had an opening on the line after left tackle Sam Baker went on injured reserve Tuesday with a knee problem. To clear a spot for Weatherspoon, the Falcons released linebacker Thomas Howard. Atlanta (2-7) plays at Tampa Bay (1-8) on Sunday. Anthony Davis Jersey . If there is one club built to handle an off-field controversy, its the Bill Belichick era Patriots. SOCHI, Russia -- The amazing ride for Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse didnt end at the Sanki Sliding Center. Canadas Olympic bobsled champions received one of the Games highest honours, chosen to carry Canadas flag into Sundays closing ceremony. "Wow. Its truly an honour to represent what our Canadian athletes are all about," Moyse said. "If we look back to the Canadian teams performance back in Vancouver (in 2010) we can see that a new culture of winning has truly emerged. "The fight that Kaillie and I demonstrated here reflects the fight of all of our Canadian athletes. We are strong. We are winter. We have the strength of a nation behind us. We were raised on ice and in snow. "And as we said in our note to the Canadian hockey team, we also fight to the bitter end." Only twice before has Canada had two people share flag duties: pairs figure skaters Jamie Sale and David Pelletier in 2002, and rowers Marnie McBean and Kathleen Heddle in 1996. Womens hockey star Hayley Wickenheiser carried the flag into the opening ceremony in Sochi. Humphries, from Calgary, and Moyse, from Summerside, P.E.I., displayed steely nerves in their come-from-behind victory. The Canada 1 sled had a gap of 11-100ths of a second to close entering the final run. Moyse delivered with a strong push at the start, then Humphries took over from there. In the end the USA-1 sled came up short on its final run, giving Canada the win by a tenth of a second. "We were able to show the world that were fierce, were proud, were determined, were not going to settle for anything less than being the very best, and were going to do it in our own way," Humphries said. "Heather and I in our race. . . neither of us gave up and we knew we had a nation behind us, pushing us, and not giving up either, and that gave us the strength to really go all in and never let up." Humphries and Moyse were underdogs when they won at the Vancouver Games four years ago but were favourites this time around. The Canadians had at least silver locked up after their final run at the Sanki Sliding Center, and then had a nervous two-minute wait in the finish area while Americans Elana Meyers and Lauryn Williams completed their run. The pressure seemed to get to the Americans, who came up one-10tth of a second short with a wobbly run, meaning Canadas women were golden once again. Andrew Bynum Jersey. Humphries and Moyse received the flag news very early Sunday morning. Theyd been at the bobsled track late watching the Canadian men race. When the 28-year-old Humphries got the call from Canadian chef de mission Steve Podborski, she thought shed pocket-dialled him. "He was like No, I called you," Humphries said. "To get that phone call to be told that you get to walk into a ceremonies with your countrymen behind you, your teammates, your family, and to know that youve been chosen as one to represent. . . goes beyond just words." As the women pointed out, they represent Canada almost from coast to coast. After the Vancouver Games, there were references about the two being meat and potatoes -- Alberta beef and P.E.I. potatoes. "That steak and potatoes, that gold-medal meal," Humphries said. "We tie in everywhere from coast to coast, and its not just (an honour) to represent our country, but to represent the athletes who are here, the best of the best who already represent our country so well." Podborski said the bobsledders embody the values the Canadian Olympic team set for the Sochi Games -- stoked, proud, inspired, fierce and unstoppable. "By defending their Olympic championship in a four-run come-from-behind battle that was clinched in literally the last few seconds, the last few metres," he said. The Canadian Olympic Committee had "an embarrassment of riches," to choose from as well, he added. Among other likely candidates: womens and mens curling champions Jennifer Jones and Brad Jacobs, moguls champion Alex Bilodeau, and sisters Justine and Chloe Dufour-Lapointe sisters, gold and silver medallists in womens moguls. Hours before they were to march into Fisht Olympic stadium, Humphries was hoping to control her nerves while Moyse was worried about crying. "Im so nervous and so excited for it and I was not even close to this nervous competing by any means," Humphries said, laughing. "For me the nerves will probably be to try to get through it without sobbing," Moyse added. "Its an extremely emotional feeling, so if I get through it without crying, that will be a huge step." VIGGIANO, Italy -- A powerful final burst from Diego Ulissi helped the Italian cyclist win the fifth stage of the Giro dItalia on Wednesday, while Australian rider Michael Matthews retained the overall leaders pink jersey. New York Mets Gear . Ulissi came from behind with 150 metres to go to cross the line solo, with his arms raised high in celebration at the end of the 203-kilometre (126-mile) leg from Taranto to Viggiano. Australias Cadel Evans was second, with Julian David Arredondo Moreno of Colombia third, both of them in a group which crossed a second behind Ulissi in the first uphill finish of this years Giro. "Starting as the big favourite is always difficult. I showed I was ready," Ulissi said. "So Im enjoying this moment. I wanted this win too against the big names who were up there in the finale of the stage." Weather again played a part, with wet and windy conditions, although there was sunshine on the five-kilometre (three-mile) climb to the finish. Matthews fought hard to stay near the front in the final kilometre and finished sixth. He will wear the pink jersey for a fourth day, a record for an Australian cyclist. The Orica-GreenEdge rider extended his lead to 14 seconds, with Dutchman Pieter Weening moving into second spot. Evans is third. "I think the boys rode really well all day, they worked hard to keep me out of the wind and of problems," Matthews said. "I still havent won a stage, which I really wanted, but Im still in the pink jersey and well try again to fight to win tomorrows stage." Former champion Ryder Hesjedal of Victoria is 69th while Svein Tuft of Langley, B.C., is 171st. There was an early break of 11 riders and, although their lead rose and fell at several points, the Orica-led peloton was happy to control the gap to an average of four minutes. There were several attempted breaks up front with 30km (18.6 miles) to go, but none stuck and the group was back together on the penultimate climb -- the first ascent up to Viggiano -- just before the slippery roads caused the first big crash of the day. There were several more crashes as the rain made the tight and technical descent even trickier. Gianluca Brambilla attacked bravely on the descent, opening up a 30-second advantage, but Joaquin Rodriguezs Katusha team chased him down and he was caught on the final climb, setting up the scintillating finish. Thursdays stage is another hilly finish, up to Monte Cassino, the site of a major World War II battle. At 247km (153.5 miles), it is the second longest stage of this years race. Cammalleri scored two goals, Corban Knight netted the winner in a shootout, and the Flames erased a two-goal deficit in the third period to beat the Stars 4-3 on Friday night. LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Jim Furyk was 10 shots worse and right where he wanted to be Saturday in the BMW Championship. One day after Furyk had a 12-under 59 to become the sixth player in PGA Tour history to shoot golfs magic number, he did enough right on the back nine at Conway Farms for a 69 and a one-shot lead over Steve Stricker. Furyk wasnt expecting another low round -- no one ever shot better than 68 on the PGA Tour following a 59. And while the three-putt bogey on his last hole was a setback, it didnt keep him from the only place he wanted to be. "The goal was to go out and shoot a good number today, get myself in position to win this golf tournament," Furyk said. "It could have been better out there. ... Obviously, I dropped that shot at 18, which Im disappointed. It was probably one of the easier holes of the day. But Ive got myself in good position, so rather than harp on the last hole, Id probably tend to want to think about tomorrow and what I have to do to try to win a golf tournament." It doesnt figure to be easy. For starters, Furyk has failed to convert at least a share of the 54-hole lead into a victory in his last four attempts, two of them at major championships. And there were plenty of stars lined up behind, including Tiger Woods. Stricker holed out from the 15th fairway for eagle on his way to a 64, putting him in the final group as he tries to win for the first time this year. Brandt Snedeker salvaged a sloppy day with a birdie on his last hole for a 71 and was two shots behind. Zach Johnson had a 69 and was another shot back. Woods was still fuming after being handed a two-shot penalty Friday when his ball appeared to shift as he was removing a twig near it before a shot from the woods. But he ran off six birdies in seven holes in the middle of his round to get within two shots. His momentum was slowed when he missed a 6-foot birdie putt on the par-5 14th hole, and then pulled his 3-wood into the water on the 15th and did well to make bogey. He had a 66. "I had a nice little run to at least get myself in there where I have a chance tomorrow," Woods said. Furyk was at 13-under 200. He cleared one mental battle by trying to put that 59 behind him and return his focus to the tournament. Now comes another mental battle that figures to be even tougher. Furyk has gone three years since he last won a tournament, and it hasnt been from a lack of opportunity. A playoff loss in Tampa Bay last year. The tee shot he hooked on the 16th hole at Olympic Club that ended his shot at the U.S. Open. A double bogey on the 18th hole at Firestone that cost him a wire-to-wire win. A share of the lead with Davis Loove III at Sea Island last fall. Jay Bruce Jersey. Just last month, he had a one-shot lead going into the final round of the PGA Championship and was outplayed by Jason Dufner. "Its been three years. No one has to remind me of the Tour Championship in 10, and as Ive had some of the close calls last year, I definitely put some more pressure on myself," he said. "That will be part of the mental game and the mental aspect of it tomorrow, to go out there and stay in the moment and just play golf and not really worry about it. Ill play my best if Im focused on the task at hand, not on the results." There were low scores available Saturday, as Matt Kuchar showed with a 61 that he finished before the leaders even arrived at the course. And there was plenty of excitement. Hunter Mahan had a hole-in-one on the 17th to win a BMW i3 electric car. There were some bizarre moments, too, such as when Justin Rose was penalized by taking a practice swing behind his ball, only for a divot to hit the golf ball and move it. There also was a fan in the bleachers behind the 18th who was betting on players and being vocal about it, leading to an exchange with Johnson and Watney. Sergio Garcia played with Woods and didnt endure very much at all. It was their first time playing together since Garcia and Woods had a verbal spat at The Players Championship, which ended badly when Garcia jokingly said he would have Woods over for dinner during the U.S. Open and serve him fried chicken. In the suburbs north of Chicago, there was hardly any heckling beyond what is heard at a normal golf tournament in America. Furyk didnt make his first birdie until the seventh hole, but he made two more to get back into a rhythm and build a cushion. Why couldnt he produce another low round? "I think theres probably a mental battle to it," he said. "But youre not going to have many days like I played yesterday." David Hearn of Brantford, Ont., shot 71 and sits at 2 under in a tie for 26th, while Graham DeLaet of Weyburn, Sask., shot 72 and is 2 over in a tie for 41st. Of the five previous 59s on the PGA Tour, only two failed to win the tournament -- Chip Beck in the 1991 Las Vegas Invitational and Paul Goydos at the 2010 John Deere Classic. Beck had his 13-under 59 in the third round of a 90-hole tournament and tied for third. Goydos had his 12-under 59 in the opening round and was runner-up. Al Geiberger shot 13-under 59 in the second round of the 1977 Memphis Classic and went on to win. David Duval (13-under 59 at the 1999 Bob Hope Classic) and Stuart Appleby (11-under 59 at the 2010 Greenbrier Classic) shot their rounds on Sunday to win. ' ' '

WASHINGTON - Randy Wittman learned long ago to focus on what he can control. Rob Stanifer Jersey . Thats what he did over the past 2 1/2 years with the Washington Wizards. Wittmans approach helped turn the Wizards from pushover to playoff winners. Now hell have a chance to stick around following a 44-38 season, a 15-win improvement from last year, after the Wizards gave him a contract extension. "I think over the last couple of years what weve begun to establish here, continuity I think is important," Wittman said Wednesday in the hallway near the practice court at the Verizon Center. "Im appreciative of the opportunity to continue on." The Wizards reached the playoffs for the first time since 2008 and won their first post-season series since 2005. They accomplished it in the final year of Wittmans contract and under a preseason mandate to make the playoffs from owner Ted Leonsis. "I was here when it was not pretty. When you see it change, when you see the things that youve implemented begin to work, you want to continue on," the 54-year-old Wittman said. Wittman guided the Wizards to a first-round win over the Chicago Bulls before losing in six games to the top-seeded Indiana Pacers in their Eastern Conference semifinal. "Over the last 2 1/2 years really, Randy has established a great culture, a hard-working culture, a defensive-oriented team," Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld said. "Weve been a top-10 defensive team in the league the last two years. Weve made good progress. We still have a lot of work ahead of us, but were headed in the right direction." Asked if retaining Wittman was an easy decision," Grunfeld stated," Yes, it was." Having already coached rebuilding squads with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves, Wittman took over as head coach when Flip Saunders was fired in January 2012. As was the case in those other spots, losses starting piling up in Washington. Wittman has the worst regular-season record of anyone who has coached at least 400 NBA games — 191-329, a .367 winning percentage — since the league started in 1946. "Job security is fleeting, as we all know in this business," said Wittman, who played in the NBA for nine seasons. "If you worry about it, youre not going to do your job well." With John Wall sidelined, the Wizards opened the 2012-13 season with a 4-28 record. When their point guard returned, Washington finished 24-25. With Wall healthy and turning into a first-time All-Star alongside backcourt partner Bradley Beal, Washington ended the 2013-14 season fifth in the Eastern Conference. Washington has plenty of decisions remaining. Two starters — centre Marcin Gortat and forward Trevor Ariza — are unrestricted free agents. Overall, 10 players are entering some level of free agency or the organization must decide whether to exercise a team option. Though Wittman and Grunfeld have stated a desire to the keep the core intact, the roster could certainly look different next season. But the man on the sideline will be familiar. Jarlin Garcia Jersey . The 10-year deal the league and players agreed to that ended the 2011 lockout gave either side the right to opt out after six years. And now, LeBron James wants time to think. The Miami Heat president met with the four-time NBA MVP on Wednesday afternoon in Las Vegas, two people familiar with the situation told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity because neither side publicly disclosed details of the meeting. James, his agent Rich Paul, Riley and Heat executive Andy Elisburg were at the meeting, said one of the people. James has not made a decision and will not make any announcements before Thursday, a person said, adding, "He wants to meet with his family." As he weighs his options, James will not meet with any other teams, the person added. So now, Miami waits. So does Cleveland. So, too, does just about the entire NBA -- because once James picks the Heat or the Cavaliers, the teams believed to be serious suitors for his services, the domino effect of other free agent moves will surely follow. The meeting in Las Vegas lasted for more than an hour and took place more than two weeks after James opted out of his contract and elected to become a free agent, and the day before free agents may begin signing contracts. James spent part of his day before the meeting at his annual skills academy with some of the nations top high school and college players, interacting and observing workouts. That was part of the reason why Riley had to fly across the country to make the meeting happen, with hopes that he would return to Miami from the gambling haven with a huge win -- keeping James in Heat colours for at least another season. He returned to the camp after the meeting, jumping into some games with the high school players. James spent a few minutes on each court during the evening session, high-fiving the kids as he played. And when Shake Milton of Owasso, Oklahoma, hit the deck on one play, James shouted, "Hold on, I got you, stay down," then promptly helped his teammate to his feet. Another highlight came when James showed off his passing skills, throwing a no-look assist to Jayson Tatum of St. Louis for a two-handed slam. When his night of play was over, James got stretched out, had icepacks strapped to his knees and back, then went to the stands and sat with Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski -- his Olympic coach -- for about five minutes. Ian Kennedy Jersey. James then exited the building. Several teams have met with Paul during the free-agent process, but it appears James has only one decision to make: Cleveland or Miami, the same choice he pondered four years ago when he decided play with the Heat. With James, the Heat won four Eastern Conference titles and two NBA championships. The Cavaliers didnt sit idle waiting for James and Riley to meet. Cleveland created salary-cap space earlier Wednesday with a three-team trade with the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets, ensuring they have enough to offer the James a maximum contract. But James had said he would meet with Riley and the Heat before making his decision. The meeting came nearly three weeks after Riley addressed reporters following Miamis loss to San Antonio in the NBA Finals, when he insisted that the Heat needed to make some adjustments to get better -- but didnt need a massive rebuilding job to stay at a championship level. "Youve got to stay together if youve got the guts, and you dont find the first door and run out of it if you have an opportunity," Riley said on June 19. "This is four years now into this era, this team, four finals. Its only been done three other times before. And two championships. From day one to the end, it was like a Broadway show. Sort of ran out of steam, and we need to retool. We dont need to rebuild, we need to retool, and thats what were going to do." If James leaves, itll be more than a retooling project that awaits Miami. Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh -- the other members of Miamis "Big 3" of the past four seasons -- are also free agents, and neither has given any hint as to what they will do, though its still expected Wade will not leave the Heat. Miami has just two players under contract for next season, one of those on a partially guaranteed deal. The Heat have also reached agreements with forwards Josh McRoberts and Danny Granger, as well as the draft rights to guard Shabazz Napier, but theres still plenty of jobs to be filled. And the Heat have mostly been in a holding pattern while waiting for James to make his next decision. ' ' '

I just want to have a great season finale and no controversy because of another car causing a collision and being blamed for having interfered in the championship, said the Austrian. I did it probably out of a more holistic approach of sympathy for Max, but if things are perceived in the wrong way in another team they dont need me, they need a psychiatrist. While team boss Chrstian Horner has criticised Wolffs actions, Verstappen himself has shrugged off the controversy.I was next to my dad when he called, the teenager told Sky F1. He went outside, I was watching TV and didnt want to be disturbed.I am just here to focus on my job and that is to drive fast for Red Bull, not Mercedes.Verstappen and championship leader Rosberg made contact in Mexico as they battled over second place at the start of the race and the teenager was criticised by Wolff following the race. The Austrian branded Verstappen ruthless and told reporters you dont bang wheels with the championship leader three races until the end following the incident. Both Mercedes run wide on the first lap of the Mexican Grand Prix, whilst Pascal Wehrleins race ends prematurely following a clash with Marcus Ericsson. Among my discussion with Jos, we talked through a situation, imagine the title is down to the wire between Lewis and Nico and there is a hard manoeuvre and Max loses it and shunts into one of our guys and the championship is over, he doesnt need that discussion, Wolff confirmed to Sky Sports F1. I didnt say dont race them, just keep that tiny little margin of avoiding a collision because that would be very controversial for everyone. However, Red Bull team principal Horner was surprised to learn a rival team had been discussing the driving of one of his drivers.Jos told me when he got here on Thursday and I was just a bit surprised that Toto was calling another drivers father from another team, the Red Bull boss told Sky Sports F1.I think Jos was a bit surprised when he put the phone down to Toto that not only was he commenting on behalf of Mercedes, but Ferrari as well that the way Max was conducting himself wasnt winning him any favours and he should wind his neck in.Ive not heard of a team principal calling up other drivers fathers before, but obviously Toto felt the need to do so.Horner joked Mercedes could have their own private one-on-one race before the actual Grand Prix on Sunday if that is what Wolff wanted.I think it is total rubbish. If Toto wants to have a race for his drivers we can do that at 11am tomorrow then we can have the Grand Prix at 2pm where everybody can race, he added.Dont miss the Brazilian GP on Sunday evening. That will change now that hes a Wimbledon champion. Pospisil teamed with American Jack Sock for the first time this month and the results were staggering. They pulled off upset after upset at the All England Club and capped their stunning run by topping the best mens doubles team of all-time in the final. "We were kind of joking around about it a little bit when we decided to sign up -- that wed go for the title," Pospisil said Tuesday on a conference call. "Joking -- but actually believing in it a little bit. I think if we didnt believe we could do it I dont think wed be standing here with the trophy ... we definitely knew it was possible but we wouldnt put money on it." Pospisil, from Vancouver, and Sock are big hitters who used their strong service games and volley skills to their advantage at the Grand Slam event. Theyre young, tall and powerful and had no pressure as an unseeded duo. The final was a five-set thriller that lasted over three hours, as Pospisil and Sock beat top seeds and defending champions Bob and Mike Bryan of the United States 7-6 (5), 6-7 (3), 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. "We celebrated probably from the moment we got into the locker-room -- the champagne was flowing," Pospisil said. "We had a really great night with friends and family." Singles play will still be Pospisils primary focus but he plans to team with Sock for the rest of the season, including the U.S. Open and possibly the season-ending doubles championships. Pospisil lost his first-round singles match at Wimbledon before giving doubles his full attention. It didnt take long for him to develop some on-court chemistry with Sock. "It was just one of those things, we didnt even really practise or anything," Pospisil said. "The first time we hit was before our first-round match. I think we just got along really well and our personalities seemed to match really well. We had a lot of fun on the court. I think that was the main thing. "From the very first round we were just laughing and enjoying ourselves and trying not to take it too seriously but at the same time wanting to win." With Socks booming forehand and Pospisils aggressive net play, they quickly found their groove. Air Force 1 Outlet. They were pushed to five sets in the second round before knocking off eighth-seeded Rohan Bopanna of India and Aisam Qureshi of Pakistan. Second-seeded Alexander Peya of Austria and Brazils Bruno Soares fell in a four-set quarter-final. In the semifinal, Pospisil and Sock surprised fifth seeds Leander Paes of India and Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic in straight sets before they denied the Bryan twins their 16th Grand Slam doubles title and 99th overall. Pospisil and Sock saved four match points in the final set before the American hit a winner down the line for the victory. "Our games fit extremely well, they complemented each other really well the whole tournament," Pospisil said. "Our personalities by the end of two weeks, we pretty much went from not knowing each other too well at all to being best friends." They were the first team since 2000 (Lleyton Hewitt and Max Mirnyi) to win a Grand Slam title in their first tournament together. It was the first time a Canadian had played in the Wimbledon mens doubles final since 2009, when Torontos Daniel Nestor teamed with Nenad Zimonjic to win their second All England Club title. Pospisil and Sock first broached the subject of teaming up about six weeks ago, but Pospisil didnt know if hed be able to play due to a nagging back injury. The Canadian was pain-free in the days leading up to Wimbledon and they gave it a go. "The timing was pretty amazing," Pospisil said. "It was a pretty fortunate pairing that we got together and that he decided to take that chance. I think I told him like 50-50 at the time but it was probably more like 60-70 per cent that I wouldnt play. "It just ended up working out very well." It was the first Centre Court appearance for both the 24-year-old Pospisil and Sock, whos 21. Sock has had Grand Slam doubles success in the past, teaming with fellow American Melanie Oudin to win the mixed title at the 2011 U.S. Open. Pospisils previous best Grand Slam doubles results were round of 16 appearances last year with Ottawas Jesse Levine at Wimbledon and with Nestor at the U.S. Open. The Canadian currently holds the No. 33 position in both the singles and doubles world rankings. Sock is ranked 31st in doubles and 76th in singles. ' ' '

At the age of 46, Dominik Hasek was still playing hockey. Tony Gwynn Jersey . He put on his goalie pads for the final time Feb. 27, 2011 in the KHL. At the age of 49, "the Dominator" is expected to be part of the class of 2014 at the Hockey Hall of Fame, which will be announced this afternoon on TSN2 at 3pm et/Noon pt. Though nothing is guaranteed, the six-time Vezina Trophy-winner should be a lock. "For me its a no-brainer," former Buffalo Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said earlier this year. Hasek won one Stanley Cup as a starter with the Detroit Red Wings in 2002, then split time with Chris Osgood and became the backup in the playoffs for the 2008 title. He came close to the Cup in 1999 with Buffalo, only to be beaten by the Dallas Stars on Brett Hulls foot-in-the-crease overtime goal. Haseks best years came with the Sabres, when he had seven straight seasons with a save percentage of .930 or higher. He finished with 234 career regular-season victories in Buffalo and 389 over his 16-year NHL career. Veteran goaltender Tomas Vokoun "knew all along" Hasek would be great from watching him play in their native Czech Republic. "It took him a little bit just because of his style and all that to convince people here," Vokoun said in a phone interview. "I definitely consider him, if hes not the best, one of the top three to ever play. ... He definitely deserves to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer." Swedish centre Peter Forsberg is also expected to get the call to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. American-born centre Mike Modano leads the other new candidates and is the most likely to be inducted, ahead of three-time Cup-winner and first-ballot dark horse Mark Recchi. Forsberg, who began his career with the Quebec Nordiques following the blockbuster Eric Lindros trade with the Philadelphia Flyers, went on to win two Cups with the Colorado Avalanche. He finished with 885 points in 708 regular-season games as his career was cut short by foot injuries. With 1,374 points over 21 seasons, Modano became the most prolific American-born scorer in NHL history. Late coach Pat Burns remains a candidate in the "builder" category, a year after Fred Shero was posthumously elected 38 years after leading the Flyers to back-to-back Cups. Burns, a three-time Jack Adams Award winner as coach of the year, died in November 2010 at the age of 58. This is the first year John Davidson is serving as chairman of the Hockey Hall of Fame selection committee, replacing Jim Gregory. Bobby Clarke, David Poile and Luc Robitaille were appointed to the committee for the first time. Clarkes addition raised the question of whether Lindros would stand a better chance of being elected. Despite a contentious relationship with the Lindros family, the longtime Flyers general manager is considered a proponent of his Hall of Fame case. Lindros has similar numbers to Forsberg — 865 points in 760 games over 13 seasons — and won the Hart Trophy as league MVP in 1994-95. The three-time Canadian Olympian and world junior standouts resume isnt as Hall of Fame-worthy as Haseks. The goaltender is all but certain to be inducted Nov. 10. "I appreciate it, its very nice to be among all these big players," Hasek said recently when asked about impeding election to the Hall of Fame. "I appreciate to be one day, maybe, in the Hockey Hall of Fame, however ... it was never my goal when I was playing hockey." Eric Show Jersey .ca. HOUSTON -- Former NFL and University of Texas quarterback Vince Young has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The petition was filed last week in a Houston federal bankruptcy court, listing Young with estimated assets between $500,001 and $1 million and liabilities between $1,001,000 and $10 million. The Houston Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1edNPn8 ) no specific details on Youngs assets and liabilities were immediately aavailable. Anderson Espinoza Jersey. The 30-year-old Young is fighting a pair of lawsuits stemming from a $1.8 million loan obtained in his name during the 2011 NFL lockout. Pro Player Funding has made several efforts in a Harris County state district court to enforce collection of the judgment, but those efforts remain pending. ' ' '

Time to go to work. Chase Winovich Jersey . After four months of everyone telling you how good you are, the transition of now proving how good you are begins. Yes, the contract still has to be signed and a residence found, but in a matter of 30 days for those drafted in the first round of this years NFL Draft, expectations will be high, as now you have to prove your worth. As always, it was an interesting process at Radio City Music Hall with limited drama and more logic than risk. The logic began early with with Jadeveon Clowney and Greg Robinson going #1 and #2 to the Houston Texans and St. Louis Rams, respectively. Blake Bortles at #3 was a surprise, but then again the Jacksonville Jaguars have serious quarterback developmental problems, so this was a need pick more than a move for the best available player. Where the draft became interesting was when the Buffalo Bills moved up to take Sammy Watkins out of Clemson. As an organization, I doubt they will regret the move 365 days from now, as Watkins is about as sure as you can get (barring injury, of course). When you look at the Bills right now, and this is despite the trade earlier today of Stevie Johnson to the San Francisco 49ers, Watkins and Robert Woods make for a solid tandem at wide receiver. Add CJ Spiller at running back and EJ Manuel has a lot to work with. And all four are similar in age , that age being young . A #1 pick in 2015 is a lot to give up, but Watkinss ability to take a short pass and make it into a major gain is phenomenal. A good aggressive move by the Bills. The next 3 picks (Khalil Mack to the Oakland Raiders , Jake Matthews to the Atlanta Falcons and Mike Evans to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) were expected. But then how about the Cleveland Browns? Justin Gilbert at corner to work in tandem with Joe Haden, also a first-round pick, was a bit surprising, but getting Johnny Manziel buy trading up four spots with the Philadelphia Eagles was smart, Draft day football. So the Browns created a top cornerback and a new quarterback and will have two first-rounders in 2015 with the Bills pick. Nice day of Draft strategy for Cleveland. I think Manziel will do well in the NFL. Kyle Shanahan will be his offensive co-ordinator and personal coach and that is significant in that it was Shanahan who coached Robert Griffin III in Washington. Whatever developmental mistake he made, if any, in Washington, he will not make in Cleveland with Manziel. The next seven picks had reason and thought about the until # 16 with the Dallas Cowboys. Now Zack Martin from Notre Dame will be a solid player, but Dallas allowed the third-most points in NFL history last year, so it did not make sense to draft a guard/tackle with their first. Yes, their center and last years first-rounder, Travis Frederick, was outstanding last year, but there were glaring needs ignored. The Pittsburgh Steelers beat Dallas to the Ryan Shazier pick one spot before and he was a player who Dallas wanted, but Calvin Pryor and CJ Mosley went to the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens with the next two picks! Both would be instant starters in Dallas. This one made no sense unless Zack Martin is a star very soon. Another team that made a good move was the New Orleans Saints with Brandin Cooks. They traded up with the Carolina Panthers and took the player who most emulates Darren Sproles, who is now an Eagle. Sean Payton is a master designer of both physical football on offence and speed football the next series. Cooks is a speed element that, in the Mercedes Superdome, could be difficult to contain. Pick #23 by the Kansas City Chiefs was pretty smart too. Dee Ford of Auburn fell off the evaluation radar completely as the Draft came closer to happening. He is a good speed rusher and now the Chiefs have three of them on their Roster. The Seattle Seahawks beat the Denver Broncos because of the pass rush in this years Super Bowl and the Chiefs took notice. Maybe the biggest risk/reward draft pick was #29 by the New England Patriots. i dont know much about Dominique Easley, a defensive lineman out of Florida, other than that he has had two ACL surgeries. If you are unfortunate to have a third, it is tough to remain explosive as your main body part is wearing out. I am sure the Patriots investigated his health intensely, but it is a risk, especially when you consider Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, that I am surprised they would take. Finally, Mike Zimmer and his Minnesota Vikings had a good day. Anthony Barr at # 9 out of UCLA could be a star on the horizon and then trading up with Seattle to get Teddy Bridgewater was also smart. The fans at Radio City Music Hall gave Bridgewater a standing ovation for a quarterback who lives for his mothers heath and dropped hard after his pro day. It will be really interesting to see how he does and, if he does well, it will put into dispute the emphasis on physical skills versus football skills coming out of college. He is in a great situation as Mike Zimmer will improve the defence, Adrian Peterson will be Adrian Peterson and with Phil Loadholt at right tackle and Matt Kalil at left tackle, Teddy Bridgewaters in-pocket skills will be supported. Bridgewaters coach by position is Norv Turner, who is responsible for Troy Aikmans success and Alex Smiths best year in San Francisco. Its a nice place to be. The first round is over in the NFL Draft and you know every team will say they got precisely what they wanted. We know thats not the truth, but with six more rounds to go, there still is optimism for all involved . Patriots Jerseys China . The Leafs were back on the ice Wednesday following an 10-day break. It apparently wasnt long enough, as Team Canadas 2-1 win over Latvia didnt conclude before the Leafs began practice. "I was thinking we might get a little delay, but it was nice to get out there," said Tyler Bozak of watching Wednesdays game. Junior Seau Jersey .Y. -- The New York Islanders were seeking a positive finish to a frustrating season on home ice. https://www.patriotsjerseysale.com/891p-kyle-van-noy-jersey-patriots.html . For the Miami Heat, that was outstanding news. LeBron James scored the last of his 32 points on a layup that put Miami up for good with 11.Referee Michael Oliver was at the heart of several controversial moments as Leicester were made to wait for the Premier League title by a 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Super Sunday. Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher joined Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning to review the incidents in his regular Ref Watch feature.Should Wayne Rooney have been sent off? Should Marouane Fellaini and Robert Huth get retrospective bans? And what about those penalty shouts? Read on for the expert verdict... INCIDENT: Neither Robert Huth nor Marouane Fellaini are booked for their respective fouls on one another, including hair pulling and elbowing. SCENARIO: Huth appears to pull the hair of Manchester Uniteds Fellaini as a corner is played in, before the latter aims an elbow towards the Leicester defender twice. Leicester defender Robert Huth appears to pull the hair of Marouane Fellaini during the game at Old Trafford GALLAGHERS VIEW: Retrospective FA action for both players.GALLAGHER SAYS: When you watch the incident, theres no doubt that Robert Huth pulls Fellainis hair and he subsequently elbows him. The easiest one to talk about is the first one because its clearly an act of violent conduct and I dont think theres any doubt that the FA will charge him or ban him. Man Utd-Leicester talking points Refereeing decisions, Riyad Mahrez and Wayne Rooney feature in our Old Trafford talking points. I didnt spot it until it was replayed later in the game so bearing in mind were watching the same game and Im sat in the luxury of my seat at home, I can understand why a referee didnt see it.The Huth incident is interesting as much as earlier in the season when two Morecambe players did a similar thing to Marcus Bean at Wycombe. They were subsequently charged for the same offence that Huth committed, they both admitted the offence and served a three match ban each so there is a precedence there. Marouane Fellaini elbows Robert Huth for the first time before doing so again seconds later The FA can charge which they have the right to do, especially with the Fellaini one because there was an elbow and the first one because of what happened earlier in the season. Theyve already done it so I cant see why they wouldnt follow their procedure.INCIDENT: Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater is sent off for a second yellow card after a tackle on Memphis Depay.SCENARIO: Drinkwater is chasing down Depay on the left-hand side and pulls him back before the Manchester United winger goes down in the box, although is not awarded a penalty. The Leicester player is then shown a second yellow card for the foul, adding to his earlier booking for a challenge on Marcus Rashford. Gallagher says Manchester United should have had a penalty as both of Depays feet were on the line and therefore inside the box GALLAGHERS VIEW: Correct decision for the second yellow, but there should have been a penalty.GALLAGHER SAYS: I think it was a foul when you pull a guy like that. The line belongs to the goalkeeper is the easy rule of thumb when deciding if it was inside or outside the box. The goalkeeper can handle the ball as far as the line, so the line is part of the penalty area. Depay has both feet on the line so he is in the penalty area and it should have been a penalty. That was the only decision of the match that I looked at and wondered why Michael didnt get that one. I say that because the angle we see before where hes running, all I can think is because of Drinkwaters body, hes not sure at what point his feet are planted when he gives the foul. Danny Drinkwater leaves the field after being sent off against Manchester United I think it should have been a second yellow. The rule is the referee has to be convinced that its in the penalty area and I dont think he was convinced of where his feet were at the time because I think hes watching the shirt pulling and he loses sight of where his feet are.I think thats where he makes his mistake. I can understand that because hes watching his arms and theyre up, but his feet are on the line and unfortunately when he blows his whistle, the player moves and the situation has changed. Drew Bledsoe Jersey. The Super Sunday panel felt Leicester were fortunate not to have a penalty awarded against them at Old Trafford INCIDENT: Wayne Rooney brings down Demarai Gray while already on a yellow card.SCENARIO: Manchester United captain Rooney pulls back Gray as Leicester mounted an attack towards the opposing box. Rooney was already on a yellow card, but was not shown another for the foul.GALLAGHERS VIEW: Correct decisionGALLAGHER SAYS: The two sending off incidents are 100 per cent different because the offense is to stop an attack. Drinkwater stopped Depay going into the penalty area and attempting to cross the ball, but with Rooney, he pulled Demarai Gray back but he didnt stop the attack because Leicester continued to do so. Wayne Rooney felt Manchester United dominated the second half against Leicester and deserved to win There are a few ifs and maybes, but the fact was the player attacked with the ball so the referee is taught that he hasnt broken up an attack and he hasnt done that so the most he can say to Rooney is youre very lucky. At the point it occurred, if the referee had a whistle, he would have penalised Leicester because they were attacking into the penalty area and that was the dilemma for the referee. I would bet anybody, if the referee had a whistle and gave the free kick to Rooney, everybody would have been up in arms and said the wrong team had been punished. Leicester to watch MNF Leicesters players will watch Monday Night Football as Chelsea could hand the Foxes the title. This is the dilemma with this decision, is that whichever way the referee had jumped there, he was going to be wrong so the best situation really was to allow Leicester to continue because they had a chance of scoring.INCIDENT: Riyad Mahrez collides with Marcos Rojo in the box, with no Leicester penalty awarded. Gallagher says Leicester should have been awarded a penalty for this foul from Rojo on Mahrez SCENARIO: Mahrez collects a rebound from a David de Gea save, but he is tackled in the box by Rojo, going to ground but theres no indication of a penalty from the referee and play continues.GALLAGHERS VIEW: Wrong decisionGALLAGHER SAYS: I think it is a penalty. A number of people have said to me no but I think when you watch it, you can see. I can understand that Michael thinks it is a collision, but when you look at it closely, he brings his left leg up and brings him down and the referee just doesnt see it because it is the other side. It was a good way to open conference play, said Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger. I thought it was really played at a high level. I thought both teams in the first half had what they wanted offensively and I thought both did a better job defensively in the second half. Johnathan Motley scored 24 points and Taurean Prince gave 17 for the Bears (11-2, 0-1), who had a six-game winning streak broken. Well I thought this was a typical Big 12 game in what the season will be about, and that it was hard fought, said Baylor head coach Scott Drew. I thought both teams defended. We shot 37 percent and they shot 40 percent. I think both teams feel that they could have played better and done things better. The teamms stayed close through the first part of the first half until Lester Medford hit a pair of 3-pointers two minutes apart to give Baylor a 23-16 lead with 8 1/2 minutes left. NEWARK, N. Wholesale Yeezy Authentic .J. -- Having Ondrej Pavelec earn his 100th NHL win and seeing Mark Scheifele and Evander Kane break goal droughts were nice highlights for the Winnipeg Jets. Ending a four-game losing streak was much more important. Scheifele and Kane gave the Jets the lead, and Pavelec turned aside 25 shots in a 3-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Monday night. "This was huge," said forward Olli Jokinen, who set up Kanes goal with a faceoff win. "Any win is good, but getting one to start a six-game road trip, we needed this one. It was like a must-win for us to get back to .500 and feel good about ourselves moving forward." Winnipeg (11-11-4), which moved to the Western Conference this season, was tied for last place in the Central Division starting the night. The Jets were 0-2-2 in their previous four games. Devin Setoguchi added an empty-net goal in the final minute, sending the Devils to their second straight loss. "We had chances to score two or three and we just didnt put them in the back of the net," said Devils coach Pete DeBoer, whose team returned from a 2-1 California trip. Pavelec was less than 10 minutes from his second shutout of the season when Patrik Elias deflected a shot from the point by Andy Greene past him. Elias scored his fifth goal of the season after earlier firing a shot off the crossbar in the second period during a short-handed, 2-on-1 break. The Devils spent most of the third period in the Jets zone, but Pavelec came up big. He made his best stop against Adam Henrique, who shot from low in the left circle with just over four minutes to play. Pavelec laughed when reminded that the win was his 100th. "We lost four games in a row and I totally forgot," he said. "Its nice, but the number means nothing. A win for tonight was what I was worried about." Scheifele, who scored the Jets first goal of the season, ended a 24-game goal drought with 3:59 left in the first period on a wide-open shot from the right circle that found the top corner of the net. The goal came on a quick counterattack. Michael Frolik took a cross-ice pass in the defensive zone, skated into the left side of the Devils end, and sent a cross-ice pass to Scheifele, who came late down the right side. Former Devils forward Matt Halischuk helped set up the shot by allowing Froliks pass to go through to Scheifele. "It felt pretty good to score there," Scheifele said. "I feel pretty happy, but Im a little more happy about the win." Kane ended an 11-game goal drought at 7:16 of the second period, just seconds after Devils goalie Martin Brodeur stopped a point blank shot that Jokinen set up with a pass from behind the net. The shot hit Brodeur and dropped on the goal line. The play was reviewed, and the no-goal call was upheld. Jokinen won the ensuing faceoff from Travis Zajac and sent the puck to Kane on the outside edge of the circle. He fired the puck at the net, and it beat Brodeur after possibly hitting off the stick of defenceman Marek Zidlicky. It was his seventh goal of the season and third against New Jersey. "It was a big goal for our team and gave us a two-goal lead," Jokinen said. "Its good for him. He has been working hard and playing hard. He just hasnt been able to score lately, so it was good to see him score." LAGRANGE, Ga. Discount Jerseys For Sale . -- Former Auburn tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen, a fan favourite who played on the 2010 national championship team, has died in a one-car crash in Georgia, state police said. Authorities said Lutzenkirchen, 23, was ejected from a 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe when it overturned several times near LaGrange early Sunday morning. He was a passenger in the vehicle. Auburn coach Gus Malzahn called Lutzenkirchen "a great player and competitor" and "a great teammate and friend off the field." "This is a sad day for the entire Auburn family," Malzahn said Sunday in a statement. "I find peace knowing that even though Philip was taken from us too soon, that he lived his life to the fullest, leaving a lifetime of great memories for his family and friends to cherish forever." Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs said Lutzenkirchens death was "a devastating tragedy for his family, the Auburn family and his countless friends." "He had a strong faith, a big heart and a burning desire to help others," Jacobs said. "Philip was a bright light this world desperately needed, and his death leaves a void that cant possibly be filled." Driver Joseph Ian Davis, 22, was partially ejected from the vehicle and was also killed, investigators said. Authorities said blood was drawn from Davis to determine whether alcohol was a factor in the crash. Troopers said 22-year-old Elizabeth Craig of Eatonton, Georgia and 20-year-old Christian Case of Dadeville, Alabama were injured. Lutzenkirchen set school records for a tight end with 14 career touchdown catches and seven during the 2011 season. He scored the winning touchdown against Alabama to preserve the national title run in 2010, performing an end zone dance later nicknamed "The Lutzie." His Auburn career ended early when he opted to undergo hip surgery late in his senior season in 2012. Lutzenkirchen signed as a free agent with the St. Louis Rams but was waived in August 2013. He was a volunteer assistant coach at Saint James School in Montgomery, Alabama and worked at a wealth management company. "Philip Lutzenkirchen was what every parent aspires their son to be," former Auburn coach Gene Chizik said in a statement released through the school. "He was compassionate, determined, honourable and full of love, integrity and respect. In 27 years of coaching, I have come across what I would consider to be a few rare young men. Phillip was certainly one of those rare ones. He truly lived his life for other people and always found time to give to others." Other Auburn players and coaches posted tributes to Lutzenkirchen on Twitter. "The Auburn Family is broken today with the loss of a great Auburn man and friend (Philip) Lutzenkirchen," offensive co-ordinator Rhett Lashlee wrote. "Crushed and without words." Lutzenkirchens Auburn teammate Kodi Burns posted: "Lutz was a brother to me and my other brothers. I loved him. And I will miss him. One of the greatest men I will ever know. RIP love you man." His second stood up for the winner. Kopitar had two goals and an assist, knocking in the decisive score in the final period, and the Kings rallied to beat the Colorado Avalanche 6-4 on Wednesday night. "Those two quick (goals) at the end of the second were huge and we carried that momentum into the third," Kopitar said. "Its nice to start off the third with a power play." The Kings had the man advantage when Jeff Carter, in the middle of a scramble in front of the net, swung at a loose puck, sending it straight up in the air. When the puck hit the ice, Kopitar got his stick on it and sent it into the net past Jean-Sebastian Giguere at 3:13 of the third. Justin Williams added an empty-net goal with 11 seconds left to cap the scoring as both teams returned to action after the Olympic break. "At the end of the day, we got the two points. It wasnt the easiest two points, but well take it," Kopitar said. Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said for the most part, he liked the way his squad competed in the first game back off the break, despite blowing a two-goal lead. "No one is perfect after two weeks off," Roy said. "But weve been working hard and you dont want to let a game like this affect you, especially because I think there are a lot of positives. I think we need to come back on Friday (against Phoenix) with the same attitude that we had today." Jamie McGinn snapped a 2-2 tie when he scored on the power play at 8:57 of the second period off a centring pass from Ryan OReilly, who scored the Avalanches first goal earlier. MONTREAL -- Toronto Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle had a gut feeling that James Reimer would rise to the occasion in the teams NHL regular season opener. Fake Balenciaga Shoes . It turned out he was right, as Reimer made 34 saves and Mason Raymond got the game-winner in his first game with the Leafs as Toronto downed the rival Montreal Canadiens 4-3 in a fight-filled opener on Tuesday night. One of the fights led to a scary moment when Montreals new enforcer George Parros was carried off on a stretcher in the third period after falling on his face during his second bout of the night with Colton Orr. Parros suffered a concussion and went to hospital for further evaluation. Between the five fights in the game, Reimer made the saves and won a fourth straight start against Montreal. "That was the hunch," said Carlyle. "Hes played very well in this building in the time Ive been here. I felt he gave us the best chance to win." Reimer got the nod over Jonathan Bernier, who joined the Leafs from the Los Angeles Kings in the off-season. Reimer proved his coach right, even if he doesnt acknowledge the debate among fans and media over who should be the Leafs starter. "When Im in there, Im not competing against anybody on my team," said Reimer. "Thats not what its about. "Im competing against the other team, not the guys sitting beside me. They gave me the nod and I wanted to make the most of it and play my hardest for my teammates. And luckily enough, we won." Tyler Bozak scored shorthanded at 17:19 of the second frame and Raymond got the winner 5:10 into the third before Lars Ellers second of the night closed the gap to one goal with 2:22 left in the game. The Canadiens pushed hard in the closing minutes, but could not get the equalizer. "The execution by our team was not there," said Montreal coach Michel Therrien. "A lack of execution with the puck led to two goals and a lack of focus without the puck cost the other two." James van Riemsdyk and Dion Phaneuf also scored for Toronto, who play again Wednesday night in Philadelphia. Ellers three-point night included an assist on a Brendan Gallagher goal for Montreal, which next faces the Flyers at home on Saturday night. The Canadiens 350th consecutive sellout crowd was electric as usual for a Montreal-Toronto game and it didnt lack for action. But the mood turned sombre 2:34 into the third period when Parros was prone on the ice. Orr had fallen and pulled down Parros, who was bleeding and looked woozy. Torontos trainers joined those from Montreal in treating him on the ice for several minutes. "Give credit to our training staff, our medical staff," said Canadiens defenceman Josh Gorges. "The doctors were out there in five seconds. They didnt waste any time. I just hope hes all right." The crowd chanted Parros name as he was wheeled off the ice. Carlyle credited his teams special teams for the win. They got the short-handed effort from Bozak and opened the scoring on a power play. "I thought out special teams were the difference in the game," he said. "The short-handed goal turned everything in our favour and the power play got us going. "But I liked that when we got up 4-2 we were able to play more of the grind game in the offensive zone and chew the clock up." The Leafs were on a two-man advantage when Van Riemsdyk partially fanned on a shot at the side of the net that slipped between Carey Prices pads 8:01 into the game. The teams were each down a man when Raphael Diaz slipped a pass to Eller for a goal at 10:08 and Toronto was caught on a 3-on-1 when Montreal got the puck behind Carl Gunnarsson and Eller fed Gallagher at 13:54. Phaneuf tied it 8:36 into the second as he broke in on the left side to put a wrist shot inside the far post. It was the 19,000th goal in Leafs history in 6,169 games since 1917. Bozak put Toronto ahead shorthanded at 17:39 when he poked the puck away from defenceman Andrei Markov at the point and went in on a break to beat Price to the stick side. Raymond finished a give-and-go with Troy Bodie 5:10 into the third. Price faced 38 shots. Montreal got a scare midway through the first period when Max Pacioretty left with an apparent wrist injury after a hit from Orr. He returned in the second frame. And hes a different person these days, shutting out almost all things that arent football or family. His mom is part of the reason, but so is his teams surprising 3-1 start with the defence exceeding expectations. You just have to continue to try to live a great legacy and continue to motivate and do great things, Carr said. Thats what I took from everything my mom went through was she still was trying to get after it and motivate her grandchildren, kids at school or just whoever she came across. Im going to try to finish out her task. And that means helping the Cowboys, who face the equally surprising 3-1 Houston Texans on Sunday, break an 8-8 rut that has kept them out of the playoffs the past three seasons. The post-season drought is actually four years, or two years before Carr arrived on a $50 million free agent contract to address one of the teams biggest needs. Now hes consistently grading as the best defensive back Dallas has, and clearly seen as an emotional leader as well.Hes got an old soul ... you know, very mature for his age, said defensive end Jeremy Mincey, a free agent who joined the Cowboys this year. Hes a poised leader. Hes like Tony Dungy. Hes got the quiet strength. But hes speaking when it needs to be spoken, and thats what makes him special.Carr has had to put his quiet strength to the test several times in his three seasons with the Cowboys.During Carrs first year in Dallas in 2012, former Kansas City teammate Jovan Belcher fatally shot his girlfriend before driving to the team facility and killing himself. Belchers girlfriend was a close friend of Carrs fiancee, who is now his wife.Just a week later, Cowboys practice squad player Jerry Brown died in a car wreck that resulted in an intoxication manslaughter conviction for defensive tackle Josh Brent. Wholesale Jordan Shoes From China. Carr attended two memorial services in less than a week. This time around, he was back at practice just a few days after saying his final goodbye to his mom. He wears two bracelets that belonged to her so were skin on skin still.I think about her a lot, Carr said. I still sometimes I feel empty, and I dont know why. What Ive learned in this situation is that youre never alone. My mom always told me, Youre never the first and youre never the last. Thats true in this case. I just lean on people. The Cowboys are 3-1 for the first time since 2008, and the defence kept New Orleans out of the end zone for three quarters just a year after giving up an NFL-record 40 first downs.Carr isnt really interested in film-type talk about a turnaround engineered despite the loss of linebacker Sean Lee to a knee injury, defensive end DeMarcus Ware in a salary cap move and defensive tackle Jason Hatcher in free agency. He sees it as just another year in the system, more players knowing what opposing offences and their teammates are doing, and therefore being in better position to knock down passes or deliver hits that make receivers think twice before the next catch. And maybe the broken record of 8-8 seasons is part of it.You just get tired of the same results, get tired of the same story lines and everything, Carr said. All the disappointments. So Carr doesnt watch TV, doesnt look at the schedule. He swears he didnt know the Cowboys were visiting Super Bowl champion Seattle next week. He doesnt talk to a lot of people who used to be a regular part of his weekly chatter. His dads an exception, of course. The two have spent the past couple of weeks together, and when his dad was about to go home to Michigan earlier this week, Carr gave him the look that said, Nah, you cant leave. In my case, I can smile, Carr said. Its a victory that my mom was a strong fighter, courageous. Stood there in the midst of all the cancer, everything going bad for her, and was still able to experience life and her family. Thats what its all about to me. But this month is pretty big.Its big in paying homage to his mom, and getting the Cowboys closer to that elusive playoff berth.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP_NFL___Follow Schuyler Dixon on Twitter at https://twitter.com/apschuyler ' ' '

PITTSBURGH -- Look who has the best record in the major leagues. Wholesale Marlins Jerseys . Gerrit Cole overcame a rocky start to become the first Pirates pitcher to win his first four career starts in more than a century and the Pirates won their seventh straight, 10-3 over the Milwaukee Brewers. The Pirates moved a game up in the NL Central when the St. Louis Cardinals lost later at Oakland. At 49-30, Pittsburgh has the best record in baseball. Cole (4-0) gave up three runs in the first inning but no more as he made it through six innings, allowing eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Nick Maddox started 4-0 in his first four starts in 1907. "Its really a team effort," Cole said. "Ive pitched pretty well but Ive gotten a lot of support defensively and our offence has been very opportunistic. It feels good to say Im 4-0 but it feels even better because the team is playing well." The Pirates are on their longest winning streak since running off 10 in a row in 2004. The Pirates havent had a winning season since 1992 and the 20-year stretch of futility is the longest in major North American professional team sports history. However, they are not getting caught up in being in the rarified air of being 19 games over .500 in June. "Were just focused on winning that day," Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said. "Our guys our very focused on taking it pitch to pitch." Johnny Hellweg (0-1) failed to get out of the second inning in his major league debut, giving up seven runs -- five earned -- in 1 2-3 innings. "He didnt come out with very good stuff," Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke said. "He was trying to aim the ball instead of throw it. That happens a lot of times when its a guys first time out." Starling Marte had a double and triple among his three hits, and just missed a homer in the eighth when he flied out to deep centre field. McCutchen had three hits, including his ninth home run, and three RBIs for Pittsburgh. Pedro Alvarez added two hits and Neil Walker hit a two-run double to start a seven-run second inning in which the Pirates sent 12 batters to the plate. Alvarez extended his hitting streak to 11 games Ryan Reid pitched three scoreless innings for his first career save. He was called up from Triple-A Indianapolis on June 3 after spending seven seasons in the minor leagues. "Its really nice to get a save but its even better to help the team win," said Reid, who has a 1.00 ERA in six games. "I feel good about being able to come up here and help the team keep winning." Carlos Gomez, who missed the previous three games with a sprained right shoulder, had two hits for the Brewers. Jean Segura and Juan Francisco also had two hits apiece. Rickie Weeks ran his hitting streak to 13 games. Walkers double got the Pirates to 3-2, scoring Garrett Jones and Alvarez, who led off with singles. The Pirates then loaded the bases as Hellweg walked Travis Snider and Cole around a groundout by Jordy Mercer. Marte then singled home Walker with the tying run. The Pirates went ahead when Russell Martin followed by hitting a grounder up the middle that Segura, the shortstop, misplayed for an error, allowing Snider and Cole to score. McCutchen and Alvarez followed with RBI singles to knock the 6-foot-9 Hellweg from the game. "We had some trouble with (Hellweg) in the first inning," McCutchen said. "Hes so big and he was throwing sinkers from a downhill angle at a time when there still were shadows on the field. Then we got adjusted to him." Milwaukee acquired Hellweg and Segura, who leads the National League with 104 hits, last July from the Los Angeles Angles in a trade for ace pitcher Zack Greinke. Hellweg was 7-4 with a 2.82 ERA in 14 starts with Triple-A Nashville this season. "I wanted to have a good pace, I thought that was important in my first game, but I really started rushing things, especially in that second inning," Hellweg said. The Brewers jumped on Cole for three quick runs. A walk to Norichika Aoki and singles by Segura and Gomez loaded the bases and Aramis Ramirez walked to force in a run. A second run scored when Jonathan Lucroy grounded into a double play and Francisco capped the inning with an RBI single. However, the 3-0 lead held up only for one inning, and the Pirates added on runs following their seven-run second. Marte hit an RBI double in the third and tripled in the sixth and scored on McCutchens double. McCutchen homered off Michael Gonzalez in the eighth. "I was on the ropes and the pitch count was getting up there in that first inning but I got some groundballs in the second, guys made some really good plays behind and that settled me down," Cole said. Wilson wasnt threatened by the swarm of bees that took over the Angel Stadium field during two brief game delays. With little help from his teammates, the Los Angeles Angels durable left-hander couldnt avoid a streak-snapping loss. Justin Smoak hit a tiebreaking two-run homer, Felix Hernandez had 10 strikeouts in a four-inning start and the Seattle Mariners beat the Angels 3-2 Sunday in a game delayed twice by bees. Both teams retreated to their dugouts during an initial 23-minute delay in the third inning when the bees roamed over the right side of the field and eventually hovered near the ficus trees beyond the wall in centre. The Angels had two runners on and two outs when the bees interrupted. Most fans stayed in their seats as a few brave grounds crew members and crowd volunteers attempted to deter the swarm with a broom, a Gatorade cooler and a cardboard box. "That dude just came out of the stands and said Its OK. Im a beekeeper," Wilson said. "It was like a Seinfeld episode. Do you tip a bee guy? Throw him a 20? I dont carry cash on me when Im pitching, so it wouldnt have been me." Hernandez escaped a bases-loaded jam when the game resumed, but there was another short delay in the fourth when Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun began swatting at more bees in the outfield. "I thought they had gotten rid of all of them, and then when I got out there, all the fans were yelling: Theyre on the ground! Theyre on the ground!" Calhoun said. "So Im looking around and I see them swarming and stuff, and then I see a pile of bees on the ground -- hundreds and hundreds of bees. There were bees everywhere. I had to call (umpire) Jim Joyce over there." A quick blast from the fire extinguisher dissuaded the bees from sticking around. "Kole was really freaking out all of a sudden because I guess there was a softball-size bee colony that was swarming on the ground," Wilson said. "It was amazing. Ive never seen that before." Wilson (17-7) pitched eight-hit ball into the ninth inning but lost for the first time since July 5 against Boston, ending streaks of nine straight victories and 13 consecutive starts without a loss. The left-hander struck out niine while reaching 200 innings for the fourth consecutive season. Miami Marlins Shirts. . Wilson had two outs and two strikes before Smoak lifted a tailing fly into the short stands down the left-field line. The homer was Smoaks 18th this season, but his first batting right-handed. Wilson got a big ovation when he left with one out in the ninth after 123 pitches. He has been the Angels best pitcher in their disappointing season, going 13-1 with a 2.91 ERA in his previous 18 starts since June 14. "Its frustrating to get outpitched, but it happens," Wilson said. Calhoun hit a solo homer in the eighth inning, and Efren Navarro got his first career RBI for the Angels, who couldnt finish off a three-game sweep. Los Angeles had won nine of 11 and 21 of 28 for the majors best record since late August despite getting eliminated from playoff contention on Saturday. Los Angeles had plenty of opportunities to help out Wilson, but stranded three runners in the seventh and two more in the eighth. Despite the bees rude interruptions, Hernandez set a major league record for strikeouts in a four-inning start. King Felix hadnt pitched in 20 days since leaving a loss at Kansas City on Sept. 2 with a strained oblique muscle. Hernandez walked four and gave up a run in the Angels second-inning rally, but otherwise looked sharp in his return to the rotation. "I was just trying not to overthrow, just throw strikes," said Hernandez, who left feeling fine after 92 pitches. "It was a little different with the bees. I was talking to the guys: Im going to be in the clubhouse if they come over here." Oliver Perez (3-3) struck out the side in the fifth inning after relieving Hernandez. Danny Farquhar, the Mariners fifth reliever, pitched the ninth for his 15th save in 19 chances. "We had to use a lot of guys, most of which were tired and at the end of their ropes, but they did fine," Seattle manager Eric Wedge said. Mike Zunino had an early RBI double in just the third win in 14 games for the Mariners. NOTES: Just eight pitchers have thrown 200 innings in each of the past four seasons. ... PHOENIX -- The ball bounced in the dirt and away from Carlos Ruiz, a play the Philadelphia catcher could have easily given up on. Nike Air Max 90 Schweiz . Instead, he pounced on the ball, threw to second and -- with the help of a replay and a heads-up tag by Chase Utley -- retired Martin Prado to help preserve the Phillies comeback victory. Pinch hitter Cody Asche hit a two-run double in Philadelphias four-run eighth inning and Ruiz kept Arizona from getting a runner in scoring position with his hustle play in the ninth, leading the Phillies to a 6-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night. "It was a hustling play," Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said. "He could have very easily put it in his pocket there, but he made it fairly close and ended up with a big play just with the hustle." The Phillies had to rally after ace Cliff Lee allowed five runs in the first three innings. Philadelphia fought back by scoring two runs off Bronson Arroyo in the seventh and four more in the eighth against Joe Thatcher and Trevor Cahill (1-5). Jeff Manship (1-0) allowed a hit and two walks in an inning for his first win since Sept 6, 2010, with Minnesota and Jonathan Papelbon worked the ninth for his seventh save -- with an assist from Ruiz and a replay. The inning started with a single by Prado, who then was called safe on the close play at second. Sandberg checked the teams internal replay and called for a challenge, arguing Utley had tagged Prado after he came off the bag on the slide. Following a lengthy review by the umpires, Prado was called out. Papelbon then struck out Paul Goldschmidt looking, and Miguel Montero grounded out to end it. Ruiz also had three of Philadelphias 13 hits and drove in a run. The Phillies have won five of seven. "We were down by five heading into the seventh inning and to pull that off was definitely big," Lee said. Arizona had bounced back from a difficult start to the season behind its starting pitching and got a decent outing from Bronson Arroyo, who extended the rotations scoreless innings streak to 18 2-3 innings by pitching into the seventh. But Arroyo gave up two runs in the seventh and the bullpen couldnt hold the lead after he left, leading to the Diamondbacks ninth loss in 10 home games. Cody Ross had three RBIs and two hits for Arizona, which had three errors, including a dropped popup by Prado at third to start the eighth inning. "We should have had enough pitching to get through that game," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. "We just didnt play well." Lee had been superb against Arizona in six previous starts, going 4-1 with a 2.93 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 43 innings. The left-hander has been dialed into the strike zone against everyone so far this season, entering Saturday nights start with 38 strikeouts and two walks. Lees control wasnt quite the same against the Diamondbacks. Arizona scored two runs off Lee in the first, including an RBI single by Ross that ended a 1-for-22 slump since returning from the disabled list with a dislocated hip. A.J. Pollock added a run-scoring triple in the second inning and Ross made it 5-0 in the third with a two-run single to left. Lee allowed three earned runs and eight hits in six innings. He also walked two to double his season total. "They were getting hits. I was missing on the plate a little bit, but they got their fair share of hits on decent pitches, too. Those things happen," Lee said. "I just feel good about keeping it where it was at after the third and continuing to put up a few zeroes there to give us a chance and definitely did that in the last three innings." Arroyo did his part, allowing two runs and seven hits in 6 1-3 innings, but Arizonas bullpen let it slip away. Thatcher allowed two runs before being lifted and Cahill laboured for the first time since moving to the bullpen. Asches big double hit first base umpire Bob Davidson before caroming toward the stands, and Ben Revere followed with a run-scoring single that made it 6-5. "It is embarrassing," Cahill said. "Bronson threw a great game. I should be able to come in and get three outs without letting them take the lead back especially with a three-run lead." Dortmund started strongly only to go behind in the 13th minute when Karim Haggui scored with a header from the visitors only corner. But Sokratis equalized six minutes later in similar fashion, three minutes before Marco Reus made it 2-1 with a fine solo effort. Reus had just squandered a golden opportunity created by Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but the Germany midfielder more than made up for the rare mistake when he shrugged off two defenders, eluded two more and fired inside the far corner. Lewandowski decided the game with two goals in as many minutes. First Reus set him up with a back-heel in the 54th and then Mkhitaryan sent him though to score again. "He wants to score goals, regardless when, regardless where," said Juergen Klopp, who renewed his contract as Dortmund coach to 2018 on Wednesday. Lewandowski claimed his ninth of the season on a rebound in the 72nd, when Sven Ulreichs save from Jakub Blaszczykowski came back off the crossbar, and the Poland striker set up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to wrap up the scoring in the 81st. Nike Air Max 720 Billig. "I feel very well at the moment," Lewandowski said. Dortmund moved two points clear of Bayern Munich, which visits Hoffenheim on Saturday. "It was a really great evening. It couldnt have gone better," said Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller after his 300th Bundesliga game. The visitors could have had a penalty before the break, when Timo Werner went down under pressure from Kevin Grosskreutz, but referee Florian Meyer seemed to change his mind after appearing to award the spot-kick. "We should have equalized then but afterward I think we kind of invited the goals at the back," Werner said. "We dont know ourselves (what happened)." It was Thomas Schneiders first defeat in eight games as Stuttgart coach. "You need a good day to beat Dortmund and we didnt have that today," Schneider said. ' ' '

More than 2 1/2 months after the labrum in Harvins hip was repaired, the Seahawks got a glimpse Tuesday of a possible addition to a team thats already leading the NFC with a 6-1 record when the dynamic receiver returned to practice. It was an extra practice for the Seahawks, coming off a weekend of rest following last Thursdays win over Arizona. But it was a significant day for Harvin. "Its all day to day. I want to play as soon as possible, but we all want to be smart in this thing," Harvin said. "We put a plan together and were just going to take it day by day and see how it feels." Harvin was limited in his first day catching passes from Russell Wilson since organized team activities back in June. Seattle is remaining cautious about when Harvin will finally see the field. No one has said if hell play next Monday at St. Louis, but at least for now he hasnt been ruled out either. If there could be any additional buzz for a team already off to its best start in franchise history, Harvin provided it. "Were going to go one day at a time," coach Pete Carroll said. "This will be one of those things where Ill probably say thing every time you ask me, so you can keep asking if you want." Nearly an entire calendar year has passed since Harvin last played in a game. He didnt play after Week 9 last season when he injured an ankle while playing for Minnesota against Seattle. His off-season trade to the Seahawks -- which cost Seattle three draft picks, including its 2013 first-round selection -- was a move to bolster an already potent offence. And then everythiing was delayed. Vapormax Outlet Italia. Harvin was a spectator for the opening days of training camp, and after meeting with a specialist in New York, underwent surgery in early August. The decision to have the surgery was fairly obvious, Harvin said. A bone was impacting the labrum in his hip and causing pain beyond just doing football activities. But Harvin didnt want his first impression with his teammates being him hobbling around recovering from an injury. "It was tough for me coming to a new team and I didnt know how everybody would perceive it," Harvin said. "It was tough for me to deal with. I really didnt want to have it but I knew it was something I needed to get done. It was tough being away from the team, being new to the team. They gave me great support and I was able to get through it." Harvin said he was originally told the recovery would take six to eight months, meaning he would have missed most, if not all of the season. Harvin is far ahead of that timetable and now is in the process of getting his timing back on the field. He worked out with Wilson at the teams facility on Monday and the duo were the final two off the practice field Tuesday. "I havent had any setbacks. Im running pretty good, cutting pretty good, doing all the things I was doing previously," Harvin said. "Its just getting in the grind, getting the practices in and getting in the meetings and all of those things and Ill be ready to go." NOTES: WR Golden Tate did not finish practice, Carroll said, still sore in his neck and shoulder from last Thursdays game. ... SAINT JOHN, N. Wholesale Jordan 1 Low .B. -- The skips voice rasped and there was fatigue in her face. Rachel Homan and her Ottawa Curling Club team were ready to put their feet up for an evening and a morning at the Ford World Womens Curling Championship after three straight wins, one of them a white-knuckler. "Oh my god, so ready. I cant wait to not curl for 24 hours," Homan said Wednesday. "I feel like its midnight, so it will be nice to get a break." The Canadians arrived at a break in the schedule tied atop the standings with Switzerlands Binia Feltscher at 8-1. The Canadians reverted to their custom of both taking the lead and finishing a game early in a 10-3 win over South Koreas Ji-sun Kim, who shook hands after eight ends. But Canada went the distance in the morning draw. They stole three points over the final two ends to rescue a 7-5 win over Germanys Imogen Oona Lehmann. That was the first time Homan threw her final stone at the world championship and just the second time Canada played a 10th end in Saint John. Theyd beaten Scotland the previous evening and were back on the Harbour Station ice in the morning. "It was a long haul, three games in a row on not much sleep and a big grind this morning against Germany," Homan said. Homan, third Emma Miskew, second Alison Kreviazuk and lead Lisa Weagle headed to dinner with family members feeling confident about their position. Canada concludes the round robin Thursday against China and Sweden. "Two great teams," Miskew said. Swedens Margaretha Sigfridsson and Russias Anna Sidorova were both 7-2 followed by Chinas Liu Sijia and South Korea tied at 6-3 and Allison Pottinger of the U.S. at 5-4. Scotlands Kerry Barr and Anna Kubeskova of the Czech Republic were 2-7 with Germany, Latvias Evita Regza and Denmarks Madeleine Dupont at 1-8. The top four teams in the preliminary round advance to the Page playoff. Ties for fourth will be solved by tie-breaker games. The countries with the two best records meet in one playoff game Friday with the winner advancing directly to Sundays gold-medal game. The loser drops to Saturday afternoons semifinal to meet the winner of a morning playoff between the third and fourth seeds. "We have our fate in our own hands," Homan said. "Weve got to win out and see what happens with everybody else." The Canadians, all 28 years old or younger, couldnt hide their pleasure at the prospect of sleeping in Thursday morning. They intended to stop in at the tournament party room before bed Wednesday "because theres a band there Signal Hill that we like," Miskew said. "Theyve come to Ottawa and we usually go and watch them in Ottawa." Canada scored three points in the fourth and stole three in the eighth versus South Korea. Pyeongchang, South Korea, is the host city of the 2018 Winter Olympics. Kim is among the countrys female curlers getting fast-tracked to compete. The 26-year-old skipped South Korea to fourth at the 2012 world championship in Lethbridge, Alta. She beat Canadas Heather Nedohin in a playoff game, but lost the semifinal and lost the bronze-medal rematch to Nedohin. Kim threw third stones against Homan with Un-chi Gim, her lead in Lethbridge, throwing fourth stones. With the score tied 2-2, the South Koreans played conservatively in the fourth end by putting up guards early on a counter on the button. But Miskews well-executed draw around a guard forced them to chase. South Koreas poorly-placed draws opened the door for Canada to plant more counters around the button. Homan had an easy tap for three points and a 5-2 lead in front of 1,726 at Harbour Station. "Not good," Kim said. "We were a little nervous." Canada recovered from errors against Germany to grind out a win. The Germans led 5-4 heading into the ninth, when Homan and Lehmann shifted momentum back and forth with misses. Lehmann overthrew an attempted double takeout with hammer to leave Canada shot rock for a steal of one. Miskew put guards in front of a Kreviazuk draw to the button in 10th and German third Corinna Scholz missed an attempted hit and roll behind cover. Homan struggled with draws in the earlier ends, but she had it solved by the 10th as she drew in to stack two Canadian counters on the button. Lehmann cleared just one and Homan buried a draw behind a guard to lie two again. The German skips attempt to follow her didnt curl enough. "Youve got to be confident and believe you can steal because theres no other way, theres no other option," Homan said. "It was just tough out there. We werent quite reading things right. There were a lot of uncharacteristic misses. We just tried to figure out our rocks and our lines. We just had to keep playing a little bit better each end and hope for a few lucky breaks and we made it out in the end." Fake Air Jordan 1 Bred . OAKLAND, Calif. Air Max 95 Pas Cher . -- The Oakland Athletics acquired AL saves leader Jim Johnson from the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night as a replacement for All-Star closer Grant Balfour. The As got Johnson on Monday for infielder Jemile Weeks and a player to be named, capping a busy day for general manager Billy Beane. The teams announced the trade late Monday. Balfour became a free agent after the season and is expected to command a multiyear deal. While Beane expressed confidence he could fill the ninth-inning duties from within, he opted for a trade -- a common December practice for the GM and low-budget club. The 30-year-old Johnson converted 50 of 59 save opportunities in 2013, going 3-8 with a 2.94 ERA. He was tied with Atlantas Craig Kimbrel for the major leagues saves lead. Johnson, who led the majors with 51 saves in 2012, earned $6.5 million in base salary this year. He also made a $25,000 bonus for finishing at least 55 games, leading the majors with 63. Also Monday, free-agent left-hander Scott Kazmir agreed to terms on a $22 million, two-year contract with Oakland, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said. The deal is pending a physical. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team hadnt made a formal announcement. The As reached agreement on a $600,000, one-year contract with right-hander Fernando Rodriguez. He was one of nine arbitration eligible players -- and all were tendered contracts for the 2014 season, including first baseman Daric Barton. Barton is the teams longest-tenured player and will provide infield depth. Undeterred by a two-goal deficit in the final frame, the Kings stormed back to beat the Islanders 3-2 on Thursday night in most unpredictable fashion. Tyler Toffoli, playing in just his fifth NHL game this season, tipped Jake Muzzins drive past surprised goalie Kevin Poulin with 1:27 left. Tanner Pearson had tied it 2-2 with 7:45 remaining with a power-play goal in his first NHL regular-season game. Slava Voynov, who assisted on Pearsons goal, started the turnaround for the Kings at 5:34 of the third. Pearson, who made his NHL debut in last seasons playoffs, had to wait out a video review to see if his goal would hold up. He squeezed a shot past Poulin, and the puck barely trickled over the line. "I was praying it would cross the line, and it did," he said. "Im glad they didnt call it off. A special moment for sure." Due to injuries to forwards Jeff Carter and Kyle Clifford, Toffoli and Linden Vey -- who assisted on the final two goals -- were recalled from the minors earlier this month. Toffoli has at least one point in all five games he has played. "This shows the depth of our character," veteran defenceman Drew Doughty said. "Were missing guys and we found a way even when we were behind the 8-ball. Our special teams made the difference." Pearson was brought up to the Kings on Wednesday. His power-play goal helped make a winner of backup Ben Scrivens, who stopped 23 shots in place of regular Jonathan Quick. Quick strained a groin during overtime of the Kings shootout loss at Buffalo on Tuesday. It is unknown when he will rejoin the lineup. "Impossible to replace Quickie," Scrivens said. "I thought we played a very solid road game and did well on special teams. It was a solid team win all around." Aaron Ness gave the Islanders a 2-0 lead in the second period with his first NHL goal after Casey Cizikas put New York in front with his first of the season. The Islanders appeared in line for their second straight home win after an 0-4 trip, but instead sustained their most disheartening loss of the season. "That was a big physical team," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said of the Kings. "I thought we played decently and well enough to win. "Youre always frustrated when two points slip away. The big thing is how we respond. We hhave to find a way. Air Max 270 Pas Cher Destockage. quot; Poulin stopped 21 shots while making his third straight start and fourth in five games ahead of Evgeni Nabokov. Poulin allowed only one goal in a loss at Carolina on Nov. 7 and one in a victory over Nashville on Tuesday. In between, he was beaten 4-2 at Montreal on Saturday. He was done in by the rough third period. Los Angeles scored the tying goal after Colin McDonald was sent off for a check to the head of Trevor Lewis. "They made a push, and their special teams and defence came through," Capuano said. "Thats what good teams do and thats what good special teams do." Cizikas had given the Islanders a 1-0 lead at 2:44 of the second when he got to a loose puck in front. Cizikas gathered it and flung a backhander that beat Scrivens, who had dived to try to smother the puck before Cizikas could fling it into the vacated net. It took only 2:14 more for Ness to double New Yorks lead with his first NHL goal. Ness, in his fifth game of the season and 14th in his NHL career, was the beneficiary of a crisp, cross-zone pass from Islanders captain John Tavares, who moved the puck from the right circle into the slot for a one-timed shot that beat Scrivens. Voynov fired an in-close shot off a pass from Anze Kopitar that pinballed past Poulin to cut the Kings deficit to 2-1. The game had many sloppy moments on both sides, with players losing control of the puck off their sticks and stumbling on what appeared to be uneven ice. More surprisingly, the game had several chippy plays between clubs that havent met since February 2012. Twice in the second period, the Kings were whistled for goalie interference after collisions with Poulin. Kopitar barrelled into Poulin late in the second period, and was pulled out of the net by his jersey by rugged Islanders forward Matt Martin. The physical play started early with Los Angeles Jordan Nolan fighting Islanders defenceman Matt Carkner just 1:47 in. Cizikas was called for roughing in the first period, and teammate Cal Clutterbuck was sent off for charging in the second. NOTES: Islanders LW Thomas Vanek missed his third straight game because of an upper-body injury. ... It was also the first NHL point for Ness, who was recalled from Bridgeport (AHL) on Nov. 7. And more than that, you could argue the team was on the cusp of greatness, a couple tweaks away from finishing the job in 2014. But the Ticats opted against trotting out the same lineup – or a very similar one at least – to take another shot this season. Instead they went for a big shakeup at a key position, one that may lead to some immediate regression, but that could pay off handsomely in the future. Gone is Burris, one of the teams leaders the past two years, and his league-leading stats. After throwing for 10,292 yards and 67 touchdowns the past two years with the Ticats, head coach and general manager Kent Austin allowed Burris to leave in free agency where he signed with the Ottawa Redblacks. The team opted instead for promising youngster Zach Collaros, who proved he more than belonged in the league – and may offer a lot more with extended play – with the Toronto Argonauts last year while Ricky Ray was sidelined with a shoulder injury. Despite Burris taking the Ticats to the peak of the mountain last year, theres a perception hes maybe not the guy to get a team over the mountain, and the Ticats decided to cut bait and build with a quarterback they feel more confident in. For all Collaros heroics filling in and keeping the Argos in contention last season, hes still a young quarterback with just 298 CFL passing attempts to his name. While the Ticats are convinced theyre in for big things with Collaros at QB, and theyre not the only ones as evident by the mini bidding war that went on to secure his services, some growing pains should still be expected with a 26-year-old pivot, especially one learning a new offence. So while Burris may have been the better option for Hamiltons prospects in 2014, considering his age and difficulty winning the big one, going with Collaros upward trending career is the smarter move for ultimate success. Hamilton hopes theyre taking one step back to make two steps forward. This reasonability of this move is buoyed by the general strength of the roster surrounding Collaros. Hell be in the backfield with one of the most exciting running backs in the league in CJ Gable, who finished fourth in the league in rushing with 782 yards but was the clear frontrunner in highlight reel spin-o-ramas frequently seen on Sportcentre Honour Rolls. And the Ticats already robust receiving corps added more talent this off-season. Joining Andy Fantuz, Bakari Grant, and Greg Ellingson will be Cary Koch, an underrated threat who spent the first four years of his CFL career split between Saskatchewan and Edmonton, really breaking out with the Eskimos the past two years. And while the addition isnt likely to help Collaros directly, Craig Butler joins an improving defensive unit. Notes Expansion Draft The Tiger-Cats got off easy in the first two rounds of the expansion draft before a surprise pick in the third. Backup running back Chevon Walker and FB John Delahunt were grabbed in Round 1 and 2 before Marwan Hage, surprisingly still available, was taken by the Ottawa Redblacks in the third round. It was clear the Ticats were moving on from Hage after he was left available in the final round of the draft. Hage Retires Hages time in Ottawa wasnt lasting, and the affable offensive lineman did the right thing in returning to Hamilton to retire. It was as good an ending to a solid 10-year career that Tiger-Cats fans could have hoped for, not having to see him in another teams colours. Free Agency Its hard to argue the Ticats werent the winners of free agency after landing their quarterback of the present and future in Collaros, another weapon in the receiving corps in Cary Koch, a decent offensive line replacement in Steve Myddleton, front seven defensive help in Ted Laurent and Abraham Kromah, and a solid Canadian safety in Craig Butler. CFL Draft The Tiger-Cats took a chance on their second of two first round picks and paid for it when Manitoba defensive lineman Evan Gill, a player they traded up for, decided he would return to school and try his luck at an NFL tryout next season. Gill entered the draft a bit of a risk with a quad injury but the Ticats selected him anyway, perhaps opting for the long play. The team also selected Western LB Beau Landry, one pick before Gill in the first round, who later signed with the team. After the first, Hamilton didnt make another pick until the fifth round, taking Toronto LB Christopher Johnson. The Ticats wrapped the draft up with sixth-round defensive linemen Mathieu Girard (Montreal) and Stephen Mawa (UBC), and seventh-round defensive lineman Martin Pesek from Acadia. Tim Hortons Field After a successful campaign at the University of Guelph last season, the Ticats return home to Hamilton for 2014, to the same location Ivor Wynne Stadium once stood. Tim Hortons Field projects to be ready for Hamiltons home opener in Week 5 against the Redblacks. Gary Payton Jersey . A good season, yes, but as star running back Jon Cornish pointed out, people will remember this years Grey Cup winner before they remember Calgarys 14-4 record in the regular season. "The (Stampeder) teams that were 15-3 back in the 90s, who is going to remember those teams?" Cornish said outside the locker room. "I had no clue those teams existed prior to us coming close to the record because we didnt win championships those years. For me Im getting older and I care about my legacy. "I understand that winning championships is part of the game in the CFL. Those are the guys who are remembered. For me, this really emphasizes what next year means." The Stampeders were in a next-year mindset because of a 35-13 loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the previous nights West Division final at McMahon. The Roughriders and Hamilton Tiger-Cats will play in Sundays Grey Cup in Regina. Calgary carried the seasons best record into the playoffs and was a Grey Cup favourite as the next-closest teams were 11-7. The Stampeders ranked No. 1 in many statistical categories. Cornish won his second straight season rushing title and is a double nominee for the leagues Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Canadian awards. Offensive lineman Brett Jones is a finalist for rookie of the year, defensive end Charleston Hughes for the defensive player award and kicker Rene Paredes for the special teams player trophy. Its the first time Calgary has finalists for five major awards and those will be announced Thursday in Regina. Calgary won games despite a three-man rotation at quarterback in the middle of the season because of injuries and constantly plugging holes at other positions for the same reasons. But the best team in the league at protecting the football chose the wrong game and the wrong opponent to suddenly develop a case of the drops. Seven turnovers against the Roughriders, who led the CFL in takeaways this season, was Calgarys undoing. Saskatchewan jumped out to a 22-6 lead, which gave them the luxury of running the ball a lot against a Stampeder defensive line missing two premiere tackles with knee injuries. "Going into the game, if I was scripting it, I would have liked to have seen my offence on the field more than their offence and that way keeping our defence on the sideline," Calgary coach John Hufnagel said. "I didnt really want the script to be them having a lead and having the ability to have patiencce with their running game. Dwight Howard Jersey. "The turnovers partially created that scenario we didnt want. When you play good football teams in big games, you need to protect the football." Hufnagel completed the second season of a five-year contract extension signed when the NHLs Calgary Flames bought the team in the January, 2012. Initially hired prior to the 2008 season, the Stampeders have gone 73-34-1 in the regular season under Hufnagel as coach and GM. The Stampeders have played in two Grey Cups during his tenure and won it in 2008. Calgarys playoff record with Hufnagel is 5-5. He says he has about 14 players entering free agency this off-season, with defensive back Juwan Simpson and receiver Mo Price among them. But the more pressing matter for the Stampeders is which quarterback Hufnagel will choose to protect in the expansion draft Dec. 16? Calgary can hide only one from the Ottawa Redblacks when protected rosters are submitted Dec. 9. Kevin Glenn, Drew Tate and Bo Levi Mitchell all started and won games for Calgary this season and all three are still under contracts. When asked Monday if hed made a decision on which quarterback to protect, Hufnagel said no, but that expansion-draft meetings would start immediately. Tate was anointed Calgarys next starting quarterback when the Stampeders traded Henry Burris to Hamilton in January. 2012. But the brittle Tate hasnt been able to string together starts because of various injuries over two seasons. Kevin Glenn came to Calgary in the Burris trade as insurance and has posted a 20-8 record and a 2-2 playoff record. The 33-year-old veteran struggled in his last three games for Calgary, however, and Hufnagel has to look to the future of the franchise. Bo Levi Mitchell, 23, won his three starts. He also came off the bench for an injured Glenn in the third quarter against Montreal in July and threw a pair of touchdowns in the win. "For right now, Im a Calgary Stampeder. Thats what it says on the contract," Glenn said Monday. "Who knows whats going to happen? I doubt all three of us will be back, but we just have to wait to see what happens." The Edmonton Eskimos, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Ottawa are in the market for a new coach and the Montreal Alouettes could be if the team decides to hire a new one instead of GM Jim Popp continuing in that role. Stampeder offensive co-ordinator Dave Dickenson and defensive co-ordinator Rick Campbell would be attractive options in those markets. "I believe we have some candidates that other teams would want to talk to," Hufnagel said. ' ' '
